The logo of BMW M series vehicles features a stylized capital “M” with three diagonal stripes on the left—light blue, dark blue, and red. This design first appeared in the late 1970s with the launch of the BMW M1. The colors symbolize BMW’s historic partnership with an oil brand and its motorsport team, as well as the sporty spirit of the marque. In 2020, the logo was updated: depth was removed, creating a flat, digital-friendly version while retaining its recognizable shape and colors. The letter “M” stands for “Motorsport,” directly pointing to the division’s origins and purpose—to create sports and racing cars.
BMW M GmbH was founded in Germany in 1972 as the racing division of Bayerische Motoren Werke. Over time, its mission expanded to producing road cars with enhanced performance. Models such as the M1, M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, X3 M, X4 M, X5 M, and X6 M have become symbols of performance and engineering excellence. Today, BMW M offers classic petrol-powered vehicles as well as hybrid and fully electric versions, maintaining a focus on high speed, precise handling, and premium craftsmanship.
