The Firefox logo of the Mozilla web browser is now a circular symbol in which an orange-pink fox with a raised tail wraps around a purple sphere. In the current version, the mark is built from large flowing shapes and gradient transitions of yellow, orange, pink, and purple, and the animal is depicted in a more simplified way than in earlier versions. This design is linked to the 2019 update, when Mozilla separated the symbol of the browser itself from a separate symbol for the Firefox product family, while the browser retained the image of a fox around a sphere. The name Firefox became established for the project after the Phoenix and Firebird stages, and Mozilla explained the word “firefox” as another name for the red panda.
Firefox is a browser created within the Mozilla ecosystem as a separate open-source product. The first standalone version of this browser was released in 2002 under the name Phoenix, and Firefox 1.0 was released on November 9, 2004. Since then, Firefox has developed as one of the main alternatives to the major browsers, and its popularity has grown thanks to its focus on open web standards, extensions, interface customization, and privacy tools. Today, the name Firefox refers not only to the browser, but also to a broader range of Mozilla products and services.
