Where and how can I use it?

SVG format

It’s a lightweight vector format (in kilobytes) that’s ideal for use on websites, in mobile apps, and for print. Thanks to its scalability to any size without loss of quality, it can be scaled from the size of an icon to a banner on a building. The file is easily editable in popular graphics editors such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and others, and opens in Photoshop without any issues.

PNG format

It’s a raster format with support for transparent backgrounds, making it ideal for use on websites, web graphics, in presentations, documents, and social media. PNG preserves high image quality at its original size, but may lose sharpness and become blurred when enlarged. The file easily opens and is used in popular editors such as Photoshop, GIMP, Canva, Figma, and most standard image viewers.

The Stack Overflow logo for the Q&A site for programmers consists of a graphic mark and a wordmark. The mark is a symbol resembling a ratchet opened like a fan along an arc: four identical rectangular segments spread upward along a shared curve. Next to it is the name Stack Overflow, set in a sans-serif typeface; the letters “t” and “r” use straight, angular forms without rounded corners. On the Stack Overflow website, the logo is typically black on a white background, while the service icon is a black mark on an orange background; the logo may also appear in black, orange, or white depending on the background. The name Stack Overflow is a programming term for a “stack overflow”, an error that occurs when the call stack exceeds its available size.

Stack Overflow is a platform created as a practical knowledge base for developers: people ask programming questions and get answers that are ranked by voting, improved through community edits, and supported by a reputation system and accepted answers. The project launched in 2008 by Jeff Atwood and Joel Spolsky; over time, the Stack Exchange network of topical Q&A sites grew around it, and Stack Overflow became one of the most recognizable resources for finding technical solutions. In addition to the public site, the company develops products for teams and organizations, where the Q&A format is used as an internal knowledge base, and Stack Overflow’s annual developer survey is widely cited as a snapshot of tools, languages, and industry practices.
