The Wero logo, for a European digital wallet and payment service, is based on the brand name presented as a wordmark. The name is set in a bold black geometric sans-serif typeface with wide letterforms. The letter “e” resembles an “o” crossed through the middle by a horizontal bar, while the two ends of the circular stroke fade smoothly into transparency where they meet the bar. The primary version is a black wordmark with no additional graphic symbol. For use among payment methods and in advertising materials, Wero also uses a branded badge featuring the black wordmark on a light yellow rectangular panel with heavily rounded corners. The name Wero was selected by the European Payments Initiative in 2023 from 238 options considered. It combines the English word “we”, reflecting the project’s collective European character, with a sound close to “euro”. Wero also resembles the word “vero”, meaning “true” or “real” in Italian and other languages of Latin origin.
Wero is a European payment solution and digital wallet developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), which brings together major European banks and payment service providers. The service launched in Germany on July 2, 2024, and expanded to Belgium and France later that year. Wero uses direct account-to-account transfers and allows users to send and receive money. As the service expands, it also supports online and in-store purchases and other types of payments, depending on the country and bank. In 2026, the phased migration of the Dutch iDEAL system to Wero infrastructure began, while Luxembourg started migrating Payconiq to Wero. By September 2026, more than 58 million people across Europe were using the service.
