The Yahoo! logo for the Yahoo web portal and services consists of the brand name set in lowercase letters and an exclamation mark at the end. The primary version uses Yahoo’s signature purple on a light background, and an inverted version is also used, with white lettering on a purple background. In the logo version introduced in 2019, the exclamation mark is slanted to the right. For small sizes, the shortened “y!” monogram is used, and in some interfaces an icon with a single exclamation mark without letters is also used.
Yahoo Inc. is an American internet company that operates the Yahoo portal and services including Yahoo Mail, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, and Yahoo Search, as well as Yahoo Advertising solutions. The project began in 1994, founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo as a directory of links called “Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web”, and later became known as Yahoo!; the name is linked to the word “yahoo” from Jonathan Swift’s “Gulliver’s Travels”, and it is also known as a backronym for YAHOO — “Yet Another Hierarchically Organized Oracle” and “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle”. In 2021, Yahoo (formerly Verizon Media) became a standalone company under the ownership of Apollo funds, while Verizon retained a 10% stake. In 2025, Yahoo sold TechCrunch to the investment firm Regent, and in 2026 the sale of Engadget to Static Media was announced, as Yahoo focused on its core products such as mail, finance, sports, news, and search.
