Dark blue oval Gzhel Porcelain Factory mark with a church, the inscription “Gzhel No. 1” and the date 1818 on a transparent background

The logo of the Gzhel Porcelain Factory, a Russian manufacturer of artistic porcelain, combines an oval emblem with the name on three lines. On the left, a church with tall tented roofs and crosses stands within a double oval outline. Below it are the inscription “Gzhel No. 1” and the date 1818. The image is based on the Old Believer Church of Saint George in Novokharitonovo, built on land belonging to the Kuznetsov family. The date refers to the beginning of the enterprise’s history. On the right, the full name is set in large capital letters with broad serifs. The main version is dark blue, while the white version is intended for dark backgrounds. The oval emblem also exists as a separate mark without the factory’s full name. The enterprise takes its name from Gzhel, a historic ceramics district in the Moscow region.

The Gzhel Porcelain Factory is a Russian enterprise in the village of Novokharitonovo in the Moscow region. It traces its history to 1818, when Yakov Vasilyevich Kuznetsov opened a porcelain works there. The factory produces tableware and tea sets, vases, sculpture and interior objects. Pieces are painted by hand and carry the factory’s mark and the artist’s personal signature. Alongside traditional blue cobalt painting on white porcelain, the enterprise creates multicolored collections inspired by Gzhel pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries. In 2023, it introduced the Bezuprechnaya Gzhel (“Impeccable Gzhel”) range of thin-walled porcelain. Collaborations with designers complement the traditional assortment with new shapes and decorative treatments.
