The U.S. Bank logo, representing a banking and financial company, consists of a red shape with a pointed lower edge and a wordmark. Inside the red shape, the lowercase letters us appear in white, while the word bank is positioned to the right in a large, bold, dark blue sans-serif typeface. In the logo, the name is visually written as us bank, without periods after the letters, although the official spelling of the brand name is U.S. Bank. On dark backgrounds, a version is used in which the word bank appears in white while the red shape retains its color. The current composition appeared in the late 1990s, replacing an earlier logo with dark blue slanted lettering and a separate red graphic element. Since then, the red shape with the letters us and the large word bank have remained the basis of the brand’s visual identity.
