The U.S. Bancorp logo, representing a financial holding company, consists of a red shape with a pointed bottom and a wordmark. Inside the red shape, the lowercase letters us appear in white, while the word bancorp is positioned to the right in a large, bold, dark blue sans-serif typeface. In the logo, the name is visually written as us bancorp, without periods after the letters, although the company’s official name is U.S. Bancorp. For dark backgrounds, a version with the word bancorp in white is used, while the red shape retains its color. The logo follows the same visual system as the U.S. Bank logo, but uses bancorp instead of bank. This composition took shape in the late 1990s and remains the basis of the U.S. Bancorp corporate identity.
U.S. Bancorp is a publicly traded American financial holding company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The company is the parent company of U.S. Bank National Association, one of the largest commercial banks in the United States. The present-day U.S. Bancorp was formed through a series of mergers among banking groups. In 1997, First Bank System acquired the Portland-based U.S. Bancorp and adopted its name. In 2001, following the transaction with Firstar, the combined organization retained the U.S. Bancorp name. Today, the company operates in consumer and corporate banking, payment services, wealth management and institutional financial services, serving around 15 million customers worldwide and employing nearly 70,000 people.
