The logo of Heath Ceramics, the ceramic tableware and tile manufacturer, consists of a rectangular frame enclosing the name on two lines. The upper line contains the large word HEATH, with the smaller, widely spaced CERAMICS below. Both lines use uppercase sans-serif letters. The difference in scale emphasises the family name, while the frame brings the lettering together as a single mark. The black version suits light backgrounds, and the white version dark backgrounds. The name comes from Edith and Brian Heath, who founded and developed the business together: Edith focused on forms, clay and glazes, while Brian handled organisation and equipment.
Heath Ceramics is a California-based ceramic manufacturer in the United States that grew out of Edith Heath’s work in the 1940s. Her Coupe tableware line was introduced in 1948 and remains in the company’s range. Production is associated with Sausalito, where a factory was built in 1959. Alongside tableware for homes and restaurants, the company makes architectural tile, combining form development with exploration of glaze colour and surface. Catherine Bailey and Robin Petravic acquired the business in 2003. They retained in-house ceramic production and continued developing the collections, collaborations with designers and work with the founder’s archive.
