The logo of Mud Australia, the porcelain tableware and lighting brand, presents its lowercase name on two lines. The large word mud is formed from broad, rounded strokes of equal thickness: the m is nested within the u, and their rounded curves maintain the logo’s overall rhythm. Below it, the small word australia appears in thinner sans-serif lettering. The main version is dark grey. The rounded letters and pronounced difference in scale between the lines define the mark without a separate pictorial emblem.
Mud Australia is an Australian company founded by Shelley Simpson in 1994. Its tableware and home accessories are handmade in a Sydney studio. Porcelain clay from Limoges is used, with pigment added at the liquid slip stage so that the material itself is coloured. Clear glaze is applied to the inside of the tableware, while the outside remains unglazed and becomes smoother with use. The company makes plates, bowls, mugs, jugs, vases and porcelain lighting. Individual pieces are designed to allow free combinations of shapes and colours, so a collection can be expanded gradually.
