Where and how can I use it?

SVG format

It’s a lightweight vector format (in kilobytes) that’s ideal for use on websites, in mobile apps, and for print. Thanks to its scalability to any size without loss of quality, it can be scaled from the size of an icon to a banner on a building. The file is easily editable in popular graphics editors such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and others, and opens in Photoshop without any issues.

PNG format

It’s a raster format with support for transparent backgrounds, making it ideal for use on websites, web graphics, in presentations, documents, and social media. PNG preserves high image quality at its original size, but may lose sharpness and become blurred when enlarged. The file easily opens and is used in popular editors such as Photoshop, GIMP, Canva, Figma, and most standard image viewers.

Circular MSU emblem with the white main building, a wreath and the date 1755 on a blue background

The logo of Lomonosov Moscow State University, or MSU, combines an emblem of its main building with the full name. The central high-rise tower, its spire and the flanking wings are surrounded by a wreath, with the date 1755 below. In the vertical layout, the emblem sits above the name, while in the horizontal layout it is placed to the left. The main colour version is dark blue, with black and white versions also available. Variants with different levels of detail, from simple to elaborate, preserve the legibility of the architecture and small elements at different sizes. The visual identity uses Moscow University Serif, designed in 2021 by Vera Evstafyeva and based on historic type from the university’s printing house.

Lomonosov Moscow State University is a university in Moscow, Russia, founded in 1755 by decree of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. Mikhail Lomonosov developed the proposal for its establishment with the involvement of Ivan Shuvalov. Initially comprising faculties of philosophy, law and medicine, it grew into a major education and research centre covering the natural sciences and humanities. The university was named after Lomonosov in 1940. Teaching began at the new Sparrow Hills complex in 1953, and its main building became the basis of the university emblem.
