The logo of Fornasetti, an Italian atelier making decorative objects and furniture, consists of the name in capital letters. Its design relies on a sharp contrast between broad vertical strokes and very fine connecting strokes and serifs. The tall, narrow letters sit close together, forming a compact horizontal wordmark. This version has no separate emblem: the faces, architecture and other motifs for which the atelier’s pieces are known are not part of the wordmark. Alessio D’Ellena developed the bespoke typeface and updated logo in 2014 in collaboration with Pomo. The main version is black, while a white version with the same letterforms suits dark backgrounds.
Fornasetti is an Italian atelier founded in Milan in 1940 by the artist Piero Fornasetti and named after him. His work brought together drawing, printmaking and object decoration: his original images began appearing on furniture, tableware and home accessories. His son Barnaba Fornasetti continued the business, drawing on his father’s archive to create new variations. Production retains manual processes, including screen printing and painting. The brand’s recognizability therefore comes not only from its wordmark but also from recurring visual themes that move from one object to another.
