The logo of the Zhostovo Decorative Painting Factory combines a floral symbol with a large serif inscription. On the left is a symmetrical flower with rounded petals and leaves spreading to the sides, above a group of small teardrop-shaped elements. The Cyrillic name ЖОСТОВО, or Zhostovo, forms a relatively broad horizontal wordmark, with the line meaning “since 1825” beneath its right-hand side. The upper terminals of the letter Ж are rounded, echoing the flowing shapes of the floral symbol. The dark blue version is intended for light backgrounds, and the white version for dark backgrounds. The floral motif echoes the painted decoration of the trays, while the name connects the enterprise to the village where this craft developed.
The Zhostovo Decorative Painting Factory is a Russian traditional arts and crafts enterprise in the village of Zhostovo in the Moscow region. It traces its history to 1825, when the Vishnyakov workshop opened there. The craftspeople initially made painted, lacquered papier-mâché objects. Metal trays later became the main product. These are painted by hand: free brushstrokes form floral bouquets, and the surface is then protected with varnish. Alongside making trays, the factory preserves a collection of historical examples in its museum and offers tours and workshops. Production and teaching help pass Zhostovo painting techniques on to future generations of artists.
