The logo of Lidl supermarket chain is a blue square with a yellow circle inside, outlined in red. In the center of the circle is the brand name “Lidl” in uppercase letters, where the tilted lowercase “i” stands out, giving the logo a distinctive character. The color palette — blue, yellow and red — has been used since the beginning of the company’s history and makes the logo easily recognizable. Since its creation, the logo has undergone only minor changes, preserving all key elements. In 2023, Lidl officially secured legal protection of its visual identity, winning a lawsuit against Tesco for using a similar design.
Lidl is one of the world’s largest discount supermarket chains, founded in Germany. Its history began in 1930 as a wholesale trading company, and the first Lidl-branded store opened in 1973. Expansion accelerated in the 1990s as the chain expanded across Europe and later into other markets, including the USA. Today, Lidl is part of the Schwarz Group and operates over 12,000 stores in more than 30 countries. The company’s core principle is offering quality products at affordable prices, with a strong focus on private labels and optimized logistics. Lidl actively develops both physical and online retail, remaining a serious competitor in the global retail market.
