The BP logo features an image known as “Helios” — a multi-petaled shape resembling a sunburst, with a gradient transition from bright yellow at the center to deep green at the edges. Next to the graphic element are the lowercase letters “bp” in green. This logo was introduced in 2000 by the agency Landor Associates as part of a major rebranding reflecting the company’s new strategy under the slogan “Beyond Petroleum.” The new image was meant to represent a commitment to renewable energy and environmental responsibility. The name “Helios” refers to the ancient Greek sun god, emphasizing the company’s interest in different types of energy. It replaced the previous shield emblem, which had been used for decades since the 1930s.
BP (British Petroleum Company plc, officially BP p.l.c.) is an international oil and gas company, one of the largest in the world in the traditional energy sector. Founded in 1909 as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company to develop oil fields in Iran, it went through several mergers and rebrandings, including the acquisition of Amoco and ARCO. Today, BP operates in more than 70 countries, covering all stages of the oil and gas supply chain: from exploration and production to refining, transport, distribution, and sales. The company is also actively investing in renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and EV charging infrastructure. Despite its strategy to reduce carbon emissions, BP’s main revenue still comes from fossil fuel extraction and processing. The company is headquartered in London.
