The LINE logo, used by the instant messaging service and digital platform, appears in two main versions: as the LINE wordmark and as an icon in the shape of an oval speech bubble. In the text version, the name is set in uppercase letters in a bold, straight sans-serif typeface with slight rounding at the corners. The letters are built from straight strokes of equal thickness. The brand’s primary color is LINE Forest Green. A separate icon is also used in the form of an oval speech bubble: depending on the version, it can be green with the word LINE in white inside it, or white with the word LINE in green inside it.
LINE was launched in Japan by NHN Japan on June 23, 2011. The service appeared after the Great East Japan Earthquake, when communication disruptions and overloaded phone networks made it difficult for people to reach one another quickly. At first, LINE was a text messaging app. Later, it added calls, stickers, and other digital services, and the product grew into a broader platform. In 2013, NHN Japan changed its name to LINE Corporation, and after the 2023 corporate integration, the brand in the Japanese market has been operated by LY Corporation. Today, LINE is especially strong in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand and remains one of the best-known Asian brands to emerge from a mobile messaging app.
