The SPAR Express logo, used for SPAR’s fast-format stores, is built around the SPAR brand sign and complemented by the word express. In its current version, it appears on a white panel and consists of two parts: the SPAR brand block with a red rectangle, the white word SPAR in uppercase letters, and a green spruce tree inside a ring, along with the separate word express. The letters in SPAR are drawn in a bold, straight sans-serif typeface with smoothly rounded corners and strokes of equal thickness. The word express is set in red lowercase italic letters and gives the sign a more dynamic look compared with the base SPAR logo. The logo keeps the chain’s main brand colors: red, green, and white.
SPAR Express is one of the branded retail formats of SPAR International. The SPAR brand appeared in the Netherlands in 1932, and the Express format was developed for locations with fast customer flow and short shopping time. These stores are usually opened at filling stations, railway stations, airports, and in busy urban locations. SPAR Express is characterized by a smaller sales area, extended opening hours, and an assortment designed for quick everyday purchases, ready-to-eat food, drinks, and products for people on the move. For that reason, SPAR Express is seen not as a separate chain, but as a specialized format within SPAR’s international retail system.
