The Visual Studio Code logo, used by Microsoft’s code editor, is currently designed as a three-dimensional ribbon folded into an elongated horizontal shape with a triangular opening in the center. After the diagonal crossover, the ends of the ribbon extend outward, while the sense of volume is created by a gradient in blue and light blue tones and the smooth overlap of the surfaces. The ribbon folds are formed with rounded corners. This sign is used as the main symbol of the Visual Studio Code brand, while a lighter gray-toned version is used on dark backgrounds. The name Visual Studio Code became associated with the product after its announcement at Build 2015, and version 1.0 was released in 2016.
Visual Studio Code is part of Microsoft’s ecosystem and continues to evolve as a free code editor with an open-source codebase, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Microsoft describes it as an editor that combines the simplicity of working with source code with development tools, including IntelliSense and debugging, and its current positioning also places special emphasis on AI features and integration with GitHub Copilot. Visual Studio Code is widely used for web and cloud development, supports extensions, Git, and a wide range of languages and platforms, and has long since become a distinct and highly visible product within Microsoft’s lineup of developer tools.
