The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) logo features large blue serif letters and a green graphic representation of the land, with flowing lines resembling agricultural fields. The combination of dark blue and dark green reflects the essential natural elements of earth, air and water. Monochrome versions, including black and white, are also available. The current logo was approved in 1996 and is used on the department’s informational materials. In addition to its logo, the USDA retains its historic circular seal, designed in a traditional government style. At its center are a sheaf of corn stalks and a plow against a dark blue circular background featuring 44 white stars, representing the number of U.S. states in 1889. The central design is surrounded by the gold inscription “United States Department of Agriculture” and a twisted rope border. A flowing ribbon at the bottom displays the dates 1862 and 1889 and the motto “Agriculture Is the Foundation of Manufacture and Commerce”. The seal was approved in 1895 and is now used primarily on legal documents and official ceremonial materials, while the logo serves as the department’s main visual identity.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is a federal executive department headquartered in Washington, D.C., responsible for agricultural development, food security, nutrition, forestry and support for rural communities. It was established on May 15, 1862, by President Abraham Lincoln and became a Cabinet-level department in 1889. The USDA supports farmers and agricultural producers, provides loans and subsidies, conducts research, collects agricultural statistics and oversees the safety of meat and poultry products. The department also administers food assistance programs, protects natural resources, manages national forests and supports infrastructure development in rural areas.
