The Allstate logo, representing an insurance company, consists of a blue graphic symbol and the brand name. The symbol is an oval containing two open hands facing each other and cupped together. The brand name is written in large, bold sans-serif lettering. The initial A is uppercase, with a slanted left stroke, while the remaining letters are lowercase. The image of the hands is associated with the advertising slogan “You’re in good hands with Allstate”, which has been used since 1950. The idea for the slogan came to company employee Davis Ellis after a doctor reassured his family that his sick daughter was in good hands. Early advertisements showed the hands supporting a car, and later a house was also depicted resting in them. Over time, the design was simplified by removing additional objects and lettering while retaining the hands inside an oval frame. The graphic symbol and wordmark can be used separately or together in horizontal and vertical arrangements.
The Allstate Corporation is a U.S. insurance group founded on April 17, 1931, as a subsidiary of the Sears retail chain. It took its name from Allstate automobile tires, a name Sears selected following a nationwide contest in 1925. Initially, the company sold auto insurance by mail through Sears catalogs before establishing a network of insurance agents. In 1993, Allstate went public, and in 1995 it became fully independent of Sears. Its headquarters are in Northbrook, Illinois. Today, Allstate is among the largest auto and property insurers in the United States. The group offers auto, homeowners, renters, motorcycle and business insurance, as well as life insurance and other protection plans. Its businesses include insurance companies and services operating through agent networks, online channels and direct sales.
