The American Express logo is a deep blue square with the brand name inside, written in uppercase letters without serifs. The top line, “AMERICAN,” is aligned to the left edge of the square, and the bottom line, “EXPRESS,” is aligned to the right edge. The letters are blue, with a thick white outline separating the text from the solid blue background. In 2018, Pentagram removed the gradient and made the background completely solid, while the font was redesigned for better readability on digital screens. There is also a shortened version of the logo with the inscription “AMEX,” used in small spaces and digital interfaces.
American Express Company was founded in 1850 as a service for delivering valuable goods and money transfers and is now an international operator of payment and financial services. It issues credit and payment cards and provides banking solutions for consumers and businesses in dozens of countries. The brand name reflects its American origin (“American”) and fast service (“Express”), and the signature blue square has become a recognizable symbol of reliability and stability in the global financial arena.
