The Capital One logo, used by a banking and financial services company, consists of the brand name and a large red curved graphic element. The word Capital is set in a heavy, slanted sans-serif typeface, while One appears in a thinner italic serif typeface with an enlarged O. A red element sits above and partly behind the lettering. It starts on the left as a thin line, widens in the upper-right area, then curves downward and ends in a long tapered point. The primary version of the logo uses dark blue lettering, while a version with white lettering is also used on dark backgrounds. The original 1994 logo was a wordmark only, with Capital in blue and One in gray. In 2008, the red curved element was added to the composition, initially with a gradient. In 2016, it was changed to solid red while the overall composition of the logo was retained.
