The CE mark, the conformity marking for products that meet European Union requirements, is a text mark made of two large letters, C and E. The letters are based on circles and have the same height, the same stroke width and a large inner opening. The letter C is made as an open ring with a break on the right, while the letter E is formed by a rounded outer shape with a horizontal middle bar. Increased spacing is kept between the letters, which makes the mark easy to read even at a small size. In its basic version, CE is applied in one color and must be visible, legible and indelible. The minimum height of the mark is usually 5 mm, unless other dimensions are set for a specific product category. The name CE is commonly associated with the French expression Conformité Européenne, meaning “European conformity”.
CE is an official mark that a manufacturer applies to a product to show its conformity with the applicable European Union legal requirements in the areas of safety, health and environmental protection. The marking is used for goods that fall under the relevant EU rules and are placed on the European Economic Area market. The mark may be placed on the product, packaging or accompanying documentation and is important for manufacturers, importers and distributors. CE does not mean that a product has been approved by the European Union or another body, is not a quality mark and does not indicate the country of origin of the product.
