The Linux Foundation logo, used by the foundation for open technology and open source projects, in its current version consists of a graphic symbol and a text block with the name. The main graphic symbol is a thick two-color square frame. Its lower left corner is separated and highlighted in light blue, while the rest of the symbol and the logo text are rendered in dark blue. The name THE LINUX FOUNDATION is set in uppercase letters, with the word LINUX made larger and heavier than THE and FOUNDATION. The brand uses two main logo versions: a primary vertical version and a secondary horizontal version. Solid white and dark versions are also provided for different backgrounds and print applications.
The Linux Foundation was founded in the United States in 2007 following the merger of Open Source Development Labs and Free Standards Group. At first, the foundation was known primarily as an organization supporting the development of Linux and the ecosystem around it, and later it became a major neutral hub for collaboration on open source and open technology projects. The organization helps developers and companies launch and scale projects, establish community governance, maintain infrastructure, coordinate collaborative development, and provide training and certification. Under its umbrella, hundreds of major initiatives in software, cloud technologies, security, standards, hardware development, and data continue to grow.
