The Swift programming language logo consists of a white silhouette of a bird flying downward and to the right on an orange-red square with rounded corners. The bird is rendered as a single continuous graphic shape with smooth curves and long pointed lines forming the wings and tail. Its silhouette resembles a swift, which shares its English name with the programming language. However, in its visual identity materials Apple refers to the image neutrally as the “bird icon”, without identifying a specific species. In the full version, the word Swift appears next to the symbol in black type on a light background or white type on a dark background. Horizontal and vertical layouts are used, along with color, black and white versions. The color version is the primary one, while the bird silhouette inside the symbol always remains white.
Swift is a general-purpose programming language created by the American company Apple and introduced in 2014. It was developed as a fast, safe and easy-to-use language for building software and was initially intended primarily for the Apple ecosystem. Swift was released as open source in 2015, after which a broader developer community became involved in its development. Today, the language is used to build apps for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, as well as server-side systems, cloud services, system software, embedded devices and other applications. Swift continues to evolve through the Swift.org project, with Apple remaining one of the key contributors to its ecosystem.
