The UPI (Unified Payments Interface) logo of India’s national instant payments system consists of the abbreviation set in slanted uppercase Latin letters and, on the right, a symbol of overlapping orange and green «fast-forward» arrows pointing to the right. The lettering is usually in graphite gray, and a small line of text «UNIFIED PAYMENTS INTERFACE» appears under the abbreviation. For different uses, both full-color and monochrome versions are provided, including a version for dark backgrounds.
UPI is India’s national payments infrastructure for instant transfers and payments, used daily by individuals and businesses through mobile apps from banks and payment services. It allows users to send money by phone number, UPI ID (a virtual payment address), or pay merchants, including via QR code, confirming transactions with a UPI PIN. The system was developed and is operated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and functions under the regulatory framework of the Reserve Bank of India. UPI’s pilot launch took place on April 11, 2016 with 21 banks, after which the platform became widely adopted and one of the main methods of everyday cashless payments in India.
