Proton Holdings Berhad is a Malaysian automobile manufacturer established in 1983 at the initiative of the Malaysian government to create a national car brand. The company’s first cars were based on Mitsubishi models, but Proton eventually developed its own designs. Since 2017, the majority stake has been owned by Chinese automotive group Geely, initiating major restructuring, model line updates, and export expansion. Today, Proton is actively growing across Southeast Asian markets and aims to strengthen its global presence in the automotive industry.
