The Federal Trade Commission logo takes the form of the agency’s circular seal in its main version. At its center is a shield with scales, beneath which is a winged flywheel, with branches extending behind the shield on either side. The ring bearing the agency’s name and the words “United States of America” is bordered by small circular elements. The Roman numeral date MCMXV appears at the bottom of the ring. The seal uses blue lines on a white background that forms part of the design. It was designed by Tiffany & Co. and serves as the agency’s official emblem. The second version is a horizontal composition with the seal on the left and two lines of text on the right. The commission’s English name appears above in dark blue capitals, with the slogan “Protecting America’s Consumers” in a brighter blue below. The space around the emblem and lettering remains transparent.
The Federal Trade Commission, abbreviated FTC, is a U.S. federal agency established in 1914. Its work combines consumer protection with the promotion of competition across a broad range of economic sectors. The commission combats unfair and deceptive business practices, enforces antitrust law and examines competition issues arising from corporate mergers. It also studies markets and produces accessible educational materials for consumers and businesses. Its main work is carried out by the Bureaus of Consumer Protection, Competition and Economics. The ReportFraud service allows people to report fraud or illegal business practices. The FTC explains how to avoid scams and helps people understand issues related to shopping, advertising, credit reports and the use of personal data.
