The Sephora logo, used by the international cosmetics and fragrance retail chain, consists of the brand name in widely spaced sans-serif capital letters. The lettering comes in black and white versions. The brand also has an emblem formed by a vertical, winding line with pointed ends, resembling a flame and the letter S. The name is linked to the French form of the biblical name Zipporah, the wife of Moses.
Sephora’s history began in 1969 in the French city of Limoges with Dominique Mandonnaud’s perfumery business. His approach to retail allowed customers to explore the range freely and try products before buying. In 1993, the entrepreneur acquired the Sephora chain and merged it with his own business under that name. In 1997, the company became part of the LVMH group. Today, Sephora operates in dozens of countries and offers products from hundreds of brands, including fragrances, makeup, skincare and haircare, as well as its own Sephora Collection range.
