The Auchan logo features the brand name with an initial capital “A” in a modern sans-serif typeface, colored in the signature red. A small songbird’s silhouette is cleverly integrated into the bar of the “A”—an element used since 1983 that represents friendliness and openness. It also alludes to the pun with the French “au chant” (“to the song”). In 2015, the logo was refreshed with softer shapes, a more contemporary font, and brighter color. In 2018, green accents were removed, leaving a pure red design—concise and highly recognizable.
Auchan is one of the largest international retail chains, founded on July 6, 1961, by Gérard Mulliez in the Hauts‑Champs district of Roubaix, France, which gave the brand its name. The company belongs to the Association Familiale Mulliez holding, which also owns Leroy Merlin, Decathlon, and other major brands. Today, Auchan operates in over 15 countries, including France, Spain, Poland, Portugal, and Russia. The group runs hypermarkets, supermarkets, and online stores. As of 2024, its annual revenue exceeds €30 billion, and it employs more than 150,000 people.
