The Equinor logo, representing an international energy company, consists of the brand name and a star-shaped brand symbol. The name is set in rounded lowercase sans-serif letters. The symbol is formed by six diamond shapes of different sizes with rounded corners, arranged around an open center and together forming a multi-pointed star. The primary version of the logo uses a bright signature red color that the company calls Energy Red, while a white version is provided for dark backgrounds. In the horizontal layout, the star is positioned to the right of the name, while in the vertical layout it appears above the name on the right. The symbol itself first appeared in Statoil’s visual identity in 2009. Its design was inspired by the northern starry sky and conceived as a guiding star connected with the company’s history, its pioneering spirit, and its ambition to find more efficient solutions in energy. When Statoil was renamed Equinor in 2018, the star remained part of the visual identity, while the wordmark adopted the new name. Equinor is formed from “equi”, associated with the English words equal, equality and equilibrium — “equal”, “equality” and “equilibrium” — and “nor”, indicating the company’s Norwegian origin.
