The General Electric logo of an American technology and industrial company is designed as a circular “GE” monogram. Inside the circle, handwritten-style letters G and E are intertwined with smooth loops, while the border features a double circular ring and four decorative swirl elements integrated into the frame. Early versions of the mark date back to the late 19th century: the monogram appeared on company products as early as 1898, a trademark application was filed in 1899, and it was granted in 1900. Throughout the 20th century, the mark was refined in details while keeping its recognizable shape; from 1909 to 2004, a version with a white monogram on a black background was widely used. After a 2004 refresh, the company moved to a lighter, brighter color presentation, and the current corporate version is set in a saturated sky-blue color.
General Electric Company was founded in 1892 through the merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson-Houston Electric Company and over the decades developed into a major engineering corporation with a broad portfolio of businesses. In 2023, the healthcare business was separated into a standalone public company, GE HealthCare, and on April 2, 2024, the energy business spin-off was completed as GE Vernova; after that, GE continued operating as GE Aerospace and retained the ticker GE. The circular “GE” monogram remains a unifying element of the visual identity and is used in the branding of companies that grew out of the historic General Electric.
