The Postman logo, for a platform used to develop and work with APIs, consists of an orange circular symbol featuring a white figure of a flying space hero and the brand name set in a thin typeface with tall uppercase orange letters. The character is positioned diagonally and shown in flight with an elongated body and a round helmet. The logo is used in a horizontal composition, with the name placed to the right of the symbol, and in a vertical composition, with the name positioned below it, while the graphic symbol can also be used on its own. The name Postman means “mail carrier” in English, but when developing its own visual identity, the team deliberately moved away from direct imagery of mail carriers, envelopes, and delivery. In 2014, the team began developing its own brand identity to replace the generic REST client icon used previously, and after considering several options, the flying space hero was chosen. For smaller icon sizes, the character was also redrawn and simplified so that the symbol would remain clearly recognizable.
Postman is a platform from Postman, Inc. for creating, testing, and collaboratively developing APIs. The product began in Bangalore, India, as a side project by Abhinav Asthana, who created a simple HTTP client for Chrome to make sending requests, testing, and debugging APIs easier. Postman was first made publicly available in 2012, and in 2014 Asthana founded Postman, Inc. together with Ankit Sobti and Abhijit Kane. Over time, the tool grew into a comprehensive API platform for designing, testing, documenting, monitoring, and collaborating on APIs. Today, the company is headquartered in San Francisco, and Postman is used by more than 40 million users and 500,000 companies worldwide, including 98% of Fortune 500 companies.
