Logo Subway is a wordmark where the first part “SUB” appears in yellow and “WAY” in green. A distinctive feature remains the arrows: the “S” begins with an arrow pointing left, and the tail of the “Y” ends in an arrow pointing right. These elements first appeared in the 1980s and have endured to this day. In the current version, introduced in 2016, the design is flat, without shadows or outlines, and features cleaner, brighter colors. There is also a separate graphic emblem formed by two curved arrows pointing in opposite directions that together create the letter S. This emblem serves as a compact version of the logo for digital and marketing use. The name Subway derives from “submarine sandwich” and was chosen because it’s short, catchy, and easy to remember.
Subway was founded in 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, under the name Pete’s Super Submarines. In 1968 the chain was renamed Subway and began rapid expansion first across the U.S. and later globally. Its concept centers on made-to-order sandwiches built from fresh ingredients chosen by the customer, positioning Subway as an alternative to classic fast food. Today the chain operates in over 100 countries with tens of thousands of locations worldwide, ranking among the largest restaurant brands. Subway continues to evolve through digital services, menu updates, and adapting to modern consumer demands.
