Where and how can I use it?

SVG format

It’s a lightweight vector format (in kilobytes) that’s ideal for use on websites, in mobile apps, and for print. Thanks to its scalability to any size without loss of quality, it can be scaled from the size of an icon to a banner on a building. The file is easily editable in popular graphics editors such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and others, and opens in Photoshop without any issues.

PNG format

It’s a raster format with support for transparent backgrounds, making it ideal for use on websites, web graphics, in presentations, documents, and social media. PNG preserves high image quality at its original size, but may lose sharpness and become blurred when enlarged. The file easily opens and is used in popular editors such as Photoshop, GIMP, Canva, Figma, and most standard image viewers.

Dark red MIT logo made from seven rectangular shapes

The MIT logo, representing the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is built from seven rectangular shapes of different heights and widths that form the acronym. Vertical bars and short horizontal elements create a compact, right-angled mark. The Institute’s core palette includes dark red and silver grey, with black and white versions also permitted. The full arrangement places the name Massachusetts Institute of Technology to the right of the symbol. Introduced in 2003, the logo was developed by MIT staff and consulting designers working with type designer Matthew Carter. Alongside this letter-based mark, the Institute retains its historic seal, adopted in 1864.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. Established in 1861 to develop education that met the needs of industry, it later became a major centre for science and engineering. Its motto, Mens et manus, means “mind and hand” and expresses the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical work. Teaching and research span engineering, natural sciences, computing, architecture, management, humanities and social sciences. MIT also develops open educational resources and partnerships with industry, linking academic study with research challenges.
